Introduction  

Social studies is the study of how people relate to each another, their environment and to the world they live in. When a child enters a preschool classroom, it is generally their first time interacting with a community or people outside the family unit and home. Preschool gives children their first sense of community outside the home. Social-studies learning begins as children make friends and participate in decision-making in the classroom. Then it moves beyond the school into the neighbourhood and around the world.

Objectives

•          To help children gain important insights about themselves and the world they lives in by trying a few of these fun social studies activities for pre-schoolers
•          Help children explore their world through their natural curiosity
•          -This blog was developed as a resource for pre-schoolers who are looking to are interested in self-education. 

Jobs in the community

Pre-schoolers should start learning about their own community they live in. They can learn a lot about social studies right in their own neighbourhood! They can learn about community leaders, such as police officers, firemen, teachers, and others who do important jobs for everyone living in your neighbourhood. Using picture cards (safety, holidays or careers) have students select cards depicting firefighters, policeman, bakers, teachers, etc. Ask the children what the career is and what they do. Why is this career important?
